About South Metropolitan Business Association

The purpose of the South Metropolitan Business Association (SMBA) is to promote and improve the business environment in the Cities of Madison and Fitchburg and the Town of Madison by encouraging well planned, high quality and balanced commercial and residential development and economic growth. SMBA provides networking, information, and community involvement.

Networking

Each member has the opportunity to meet their business neighbors and to build relationships. The SMBA consists of over 100 local businesses in the South Madison metro area.

Information

Participate in the exchange of ideas and information from area leaders in government, business, and education. The SMBA provides a forum for addressing issues of concern to local businesses through meetings, focus groups, seminars, and social events.

Monthly topics include:
  • Transportation needs and traffic problems
  • Business development
  • Crime trends and prevention information
  • Government updates
  • Housing issues
  • Political issue and candidate forums
  • And more!

Community Involvement

SMBA is a member of the Metropolitan Neighborhood Business Council. The MNBC consists of various business associations throughout the Madison Metro area united to address common community concerns. SMBA contributes financial support to area non-profit organizations serving the South Madison area.

Your annual dues of $160.00 includes:
  • Monthly Meals
  • Monthly Newsletters

The 2011-2012 goals are to:

  1. Improve the economic vitality of the South Metropolitan Area through continued activism, leadership and community planning.
  2. Grow and diversify SMBA by encouraging membership and community involvement by reaching out to all businesses within the district.
  3. Maintain a vital and active membership that is knowledgeable of the challenges and opportunities within the community.
  4. Increase participation and diversity of the SMBA Board, Committees and/or Task Forces, and general membership to reflect the make-up of the community and its businesses.
  5. Strive to continuously improve the relevance and quality of monthly meetings, along with all associated programs/presentations to benefit and best meet the needs of the membership.
  6. Increase SMBA’s organization recognition and visibility within the community through media publicity and event promotion.
