The twenty-fourth Annual Juneteenth Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Penn Park. The Celebration will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with the Annual Parade, which starts in the Fountain of Life Family Worship Center’s parking lot located at 633 West Badger Road and going down Badger Rd. to Park St and ending at Penn Park. This year’s theme is: “Juneteenth 2013…Remember, Embrace and Shape Our Future.” Juneteenth is a wonderful opportunity to experience the rich history of African Americans through various forms entertainment, lectures, visual presentation, food and other activities. Juneteenth provides the opportunity for your group or agency to reach a significant portion of Madison’s African American community. UW “Be the We” will be onsite providing music and motion! Ride a bike and make a smoothie!

MGE’s The New Green Challenge/El Desafio de Vivir Verde will provide information and a light meal to attendees. Dinner served at 6pm.

Black Women’s Wellness and others will provide workshops on a number of topics, including “Black Women and Sustainability: Going Back to our Roots” and “Going Green to Save Green” by Valerie Quintanilla.

There will also be a demonstration on how to properly freeze vegetables for maximum freshness which can be offered in both English and Spanish.

There will be a number of engaging displays, including an aquaponics display for those who may be interested in learning how to start!
